Marmoset Toolbag™ is a full-featured, real-time material editor and renderer bundled in a tidy package. Toolbag provides 3D artists a powerful and efficient workflow, bringing exemplary presentation quality to 3D artwork in a real-time environment — without hassle and time-sink of expansive shader setup and lengthy render times.

Toolbag is designed to give high quality results as quickly as possible; drag a mesh file into the window and begin applying textures.
The view updates as you work; every material, lighting or render setting changes in real time – even complex effects such as ambient occlusion or depth of field. You won’t be needing to take snack breaks while Toolbag renders.
In addition to its own proprietary formats, Toolbag also supports many common file formats such as .obj, .fbx, .tga, .dds, .psd, and .pfm, making it a straightforward matter to get your work up and running quickly.
Material, lighting, and render settings in Toolbag are intuitive and come with useful presets, so that models will “look like something” as quickly as possible, with minimal technical wrangling. You won’t find yourself re-inventing the wheel every time you want to do something basic like light a model or apply a normal map.

Leave your shader nodes and compilers at the door. Material setup in Toolbag is fast, friendly, and robust.
Your basics – diffuse color, normal, specular, gloss, emissive, and glow maps – are always easily accessible and quickly set. Both tangent and object space normals maps are supported, with a variety of orientation options. Several alpha blending modes are available as well, including the order-independent “alpha to coverage” approach. The real fun begins, however, with some of the more glamorous material options.

D3D 11 Tessellation
New to the Toolbag scene is hardware tessellated displacement mapping. With compatible hardware, this allows a mesh to be automatically subdivided to a high degree and then displaced with a height map. This quickly and easily adds extra geometric detail to any mesh, with higher performance and more control than a manually subdivided model.
Image-based lighting (IBL) is the foundation of Toolbag’s lighting system and provides HDR omnidirectional light captured from real-world environments for a unique, accurate and realistic look. Unlike other renderers, Toolbag’s IBL works in conjunction with shadows, specular gloss maps, skin, and anisotropy. Toolbag includes several of these lighting environments, or you may create your own using the included Sky Tool.
If finer control over lighting is needed, Toolbag also provides a dynamic lighting system for placing and editing individual light sources. Use these as fill, key, and spot lights, with adjustable hue, radius, shadows, gels, softness, volumetric effects, and animation parameters.
And yes, should the urge strike you…even lens flares.

Extremely high resolution screenshots with a supersampling option allowing for exceptional quality and smoothness… and to think that all it takes is a press of a button.
Screenshots also include an alpha channel, allowing for easy compositing later on.
Change any setting or camera angle while the recorder is running, and capture the results. Combine this with the use of the mesh, light, and camera turntable features and you can easily create looping preview animations.
